We are fed images and sound bites of what is going on around us and manipulated by the gatekeepers of media until reality is a built fantasy far from the actual truth. Wealth, family, and faith has been distorted by the the media especially the industry that targets the black community.
The violent images of Ray Rice has been displayed and analyzed by a vast array of news shows snowballing into scrutiny of even college level players highlighting domestic violence. While the murder of Mike Brown that erupted into riots slowly faded into the background very curiously by the violent act of this Ray Rice without the attention on police brutality. It would seem the ugliest aspects of the black community is broadcasted and then commercialized by the music industry digested by the world until we slowly construct a new reality of others and the status of our community.

I am part of the Upstate Slam Poetry Team called: SPEAKLIFE (click for video) and we had a blast. SPEAKLIFE and the rest of Slam Poetry Teams from everywhere competed in Slams and broung awareness to a vast number of issues, and vocalized a wide spectrum of beliefs. I look forward to participating in the next Slam and perfecting my craft, bettering my ability to communicate truth in the most impactful way.
Could you sacrifice everything for someone else? I believe when those troops stormed that beach racing into certain death they won the war not just that particular battle, but the WAR. I know this is common history and I know there are so many disingenuous reasons for war – that war being no exception, but that selfless act echoed well pass the troops on that beach that sacrifice shook the foundation of the enemies resolve. When I was in high School and I got a girl’s number I had to go home get my most polite and respectful voice together to call her, because her mother or her father could pick up the phone. Now teenagers have their own phone so when a boy gets a girls number he can call or text her directly with no filter theres no ,”OK I better get myself together, because the parent may pick up” thought process anymore.
My daughters know that I love them because I have proven to them my love with my actions and words. I have gained their trust by coming through for them over and over again.
