The music in early tribes were almost always ceremonies or celebrations of the spiritual. Music and dance was to praise the god of harvest, or the god of rain, or for the spirit to be with them in war. Early history and ancient times recorded music as always being tied to the spiritual realm, and now we legitimize carnal:meaning fleshly or secular music as meaningless. In every part of the earth from mans beginnings music is a conversation with the supernatural and a conjuring up of the spirits- why would it be different now. The question I want pose is: if music is spiritual from a historical standpoint; Where then is Hip Hop taking us? What spirit is Hip Hop conjuring up? Where did Hip Hop come from?
